The Reverend Kevin T. Upham was born in Portland, Maine in 1983. However, six months later his family moved to Holliston, Massachusetts. Fr. Upham grew up attending the local public school and going to St. Mary’s Church in Holliston. An only child, Fr. Upham credits his parents, grandparents, and other relatives in helping him to develop his Catholic faith. Fr. Upham first considered the priesthood around the age of 13. After graduating from high school, Fr. Upham moved back to Maine to attend St. Joseph’s College in Standish. In college, he was active in Campus Ministry and participated in the Spring Break Workfest programs serving the Passamaquoddy reservation. He graduated with a degree in communications in 2005, and spent six years working in banking. While working, Fr. Upham did prison ministry, led communion services at the Maine Veterans' Home in Scarborough, and served as a lector in his parish church. These experiences provided a window into what a future in the priesthood could look like.
Fr. Upham then began priestly formation at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland in 2012, and concluded his studies at Saint John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts in May 2018. Twenty-one years after he first thought about the priesthood, Fr. Upham was ordained by the Most Reverend Robert P. Deeley on May 26, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland.
Following an intensive Spanish Studies and Ministry Program in Mexico City in conjuction with The Catholic University of America, the Universidad Pontificia de Mexico, and the Seminario Hispano de Santa María de Guadalupe, Fr. Upham will begin his service as Parochial Vicar of the Portland Peninsula & Island Parishes on August 1, 2018. In the fall of 2021, Fr. Kevin's assignment was adjusted so that he now serves part time as Parochial Vicar for the parishes and part time as Chaplain at Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital.
