Position Description:  10-15 Hours
Reports to:  Pastoral Life Coordinator

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION
To provide support for liturgical functions at the various worship and meeting sites of the Portland Peninsula and Island Parishes and to assist in the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of liturgical spaces and supplies.

MAJOR POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions)
Assists in the following areas at the churches of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. Peter’s Church, St. Louis Church, and Sacred Heart Church in Portland, ME:.

• Prepares sacristies and sanctuary areas for liturgical functions and events on weekdays and weekends as indicated in the parish calendar, ensuring that these spaces are properly set up and equipped for sacred liturgy.
• Distributes liturgical supplies, materials and bulletins to the churches of the peninsula each week.
• Coordinates occasional projects to beautify, clean, and organize liturgical spaces in coordination with the Pastoral Life Coordinator and the sacristans of the parish.
• Keeps an inventory of consumable liturgical items at all locations and ensures that the appropriate items are ordered when needed.
• Assists clergy, staff, and parish volunteers in setting up for significant liturgical feasts and other large functions.
• Assists in monitoring the state of sacristies and sanctuaries, removing clutter and ensuring a cleanly and sacred atmosphere is maintained.
• Other duties as assigned or requested.

• Must be a practicing Roman Catholic who understands and enthusiastically supports the mission and purpose of the Church.
• Has knowledge and understanding of Catholic liturgy and of the equipment and supplies used during the celebration of the liturgy.
• Possesses excellent communication skills with staff as well as the public.
• Able to work keeping a balance between attention to detail and efficiency.
• Presents himself or herself professionally.
• Successfully completing within 90 days of start of employment the diocesan program “Protecting God’s Children.”
• Meets all of the employment policies specified in the Diocese of Portland “Cluster Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.”
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Possesses and maintains a valid Maine driver’s license and is insurable.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school degree or equivalent.
Experience with the workings of a Catholic parish.
